UiPath Foundation, the non-profit organization of the Romanian company UiPath, has created AI Generation — a free course through which high school students (grades 9–12) learn what artificial intelligence is, how it works, and how they can use it responsibly.
The course helps young people understand how algorithms work, how to recognize false images or information created with AI (deepfakes), what it means to use AI ethically, and, in the end, asks students to build their own small AI projects that address problems in their communities.
The course was created together with the App Inventor Foundation, an organization founded by professors from MIT, and is based on an AI competency framework recommended by UNESCO.
Initially tested within its Caleidoscop program with a group of 94 high school students, who were taught by volunteers from UiPath, the course proved to be a real success.
“Today’s high school students are part of a generation that is already using artificial intelligence and learning about it on its own. AI Generation responds to the gap between those who understand and use AI intelligently and those who either do not use it responsibly or do not use it at all,” explained Raluca Negulescu-Balaci, the foundation’s executive director.
The materials are completely free and can be used by any teacher, regardless of the subject they teach. The foundation also offers a separate training course for teachers.
